In his pastoral letter proclaiming a Year of the Eucharist in celebration of the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Rochester Bishop Salvatore Matano asked that at Mass the members of the congregation kneel after the “Lamb of God” until coming forward to receive communion. The Bishop invites us to experience kneeling as “a humble manifestation of our reverence before the One whom we are soon to receive.” In accord with the Bishop’s request, at Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Anne we will begin kneeling after the Lamb of God at the Masses this coming weekend (September 16/17).
Our Liturgy Committee suggests these additional ways of observing the Year of the Eucharist. We have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Bernadette Chapel at Our Lady of Lourdes each Monday and First Friday during the school year. Please consider spending time in prayer and meditation with the Blessed Sacrament. We will have reflection sessions led by Sr. Karen Dietz for liturgical ministers from 9AM to Noon on Saturday, October 21st at St. Anne and on Wednesday, 25 October at Our Lady of Lourdes. Please join us for either of those presentations.
You can consider volunteering to be a visitation minister, bringing communion to someone in their home who is unable to come to church, or bringing communion to the residents of a nursing home. Another way to observe the Year of the Eucharist is to come to “an extra” Mass during the week. Some people find it helpful to them to participate in Mass on their way to work or during their lunch hour. You can consider joining the Liturgy Committee to help us all experience more deeply the presence of the Lord, and give thanks and praise to God.
